Athletics and swimming began for me at the age of 6.  I LOVED it from day one.  My older brother was a swimmer.  I always wanted to be where he was and doing what he did.
I was a "workout swimmer."  I gave it my all...always.  I swam better at practice than at meets, except for relays (never wanted to let a team mate down!)  I rarely missed a practice and loved being surrounded by my friends everyday.  I wasn't great, but I was good.  I was very dedicated to being the best at what I could do.

I appreciate and remember all of my swim coaches growing up.   They all had a place in my journey and I learned from them all.  Of course, some were better than others and a few left huge imprints on me as I grew up.  At the start of 8th grade I was swimming two a days.  My swim coach for club, was the coach for high school in my district and my junior high PE teacher.  He somehow managed to get swimming to count towards my PE in junior high.  So, I swam with the high school team in the morning and then with the club team (which basically was the same team) in the afternoon. That is a lot of hours to spend with a coach in one day.  He may not have been the best swim coach in the area, but he was the best overall coach for many, many years of my life.  He coached us in more than just swimming.  He was a friend, a father, a teacher, and a swimmer all in one.  He cared about all of us as more than just athletes and we knew it.

I continued to swim all through high school.  My senior year was a struggle.  I needed knee surgery at the end of my junior year.  I struggled to get my times back down and then my family moved and I had to change high schools.  This was just enough to make me end my swimming career and turn away any hopes of college swimming, even with persuasion from my family, friends, and coaches.  I was burned out and discouraged by the changes my body made once I quit swimming for surgery and recovery.  A few months later, I was in a water skiing accident that would forever change my life with a back injury.

One of my biggest challenges as athlete,  was and is coming back from injury throughout my career.  As a coach, I'm committed to helping my athletes work through and come back stronger than ever. I love all the same things  about sports now, as I did when I was growing up.  I love being part of a team, belonging to something for the common goal of being better each day, helping teammates to be all they could be, and being with others that love and live the life I do.
One accomplishment I'm very proud of is being a wife to my husband, Darrell, who has inspired and influenced my athletics profoundly.  He's an accomplished triathlete and coach himself.  He has coached me to many successful finishes, as well as, being a supportive and loving husband.  I'm so very proud of my two daughters, Riley and Avery, who have gone on to their own successes as athlete's in high school and college.  Avery is a D1 college soccer player in college on a scholarship.  Riley was a basketball player in High School and is now playing college level rugby and club soccer.  I'm glad both of my daughters have developed a love for athletics like my husband and me.  I love that they have learned the love of challenging themselves, even just for the fun of it!

I am most recently, a breast cancer survivor.  In 2015, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.  Through surgery and treatment I was able to beat it and now I'm proud to say I've been cancer free for over six years now.
